What are Trigger Points

We’ve all experienced them; trigger points are these inflamed muscle knots that can cause a great deal of discomfort. These trigger sites are in specific areas of spasm and inflammation within the skeletal muscle. Trigger points are discrete, focal, hyperirritable spots located in a band of skeletal muscle. They produce pain locally and in a referred pattern and often accompany chronic musculoskeletal disorders.

Are Untreated Trigger Points a Problem?

Yes! According to data from the American Family Physician; about 23 million people or 10% of the US population have one or more chronic disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Within the working age of adults musculoskeletal problems are the leading cause of disability.

The trigger points can be extremely debilitating and painful from compression. These spots left untreated can cause serious motor and autonomic dysfunction.
