The history lesson for this month goes back more than two hundred years when high hopes were put on the beneficial effects of electrical current for the well-being of humanity. Let’s explore the big names that got us where we are today using bioelectricity in medicine and harmonic frequencies.

The electrical energy approach has been used in medicine for centuries to relieve pain. The journey began in ancient Egypt, where electric fish played a big part in bioelectricity and electrotherapy. Even Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, and Benjamin Franklin used and documented pain relief using electric currents for various conditions.

During the late 1700s, Italian Physician, Physicist, and Biologist Luigi Galvani conducted the first electrical stimulation studies on frog legs by using an electrode to pass a current into the dead frog’s leg that prompted the muscles to move. He discovered that the brain and spinal cord of the frog possessed an electrical charge that passes through the nerves, stimulating a response from the muscle in the frog’s leg. He hypothesized that nerves must be covered by fatty material insulating the nerves. We know it today as the myelin sheath covering the nerves, allowing electrical impulses to transmit. These early experiments showed how stimulation of the nervous system brought relief from pain.
